Kolache 5000 Fun Run

Course: Starts and finishes at Westfest Grounds. Approximately 1 mile south of downtown West on Main Street. Loop course down Main Street through downtown West. Finish inside Westfest grounds. Relatively flat and fast. 1st mile sloping downhill; last mile is slight uphill. Steep 100 meter grade just before 2 mile mark.
Weather: Temperature in 70s F, strong humidity, sun shaded along most of course route, no significant wind.
Background: This was my seventh time to run the Kolache 5K and my first time since moving to Austin. I first ran the Kolache 5K in 2000 and ran six consecutive years through 2005. I have competed in three different age categories at the Kolache 5K and have run this race more times than any other in my career. My personal record on this course is 17:52, which I set in 2002.

Statesman Capitol 10K

Place: 325th overall; 56th age 25-29; more than 18,000 participants; "the largest 10K in Texas and the fifth largest in the nation"

Course: Start at Congress Avenue bridge, north on Congress, around State Capitol on San Jacinto Blvd, west on 15th Street to Winstead Lane, south on Winstead to Stephen F. Austin Drive, east on Stephen F. Austin to Cesar Chavez Street, east on Cesar Chavez to South 1st Street, across South 1st Street bridge, finishing on Riverside Drive. Slight incline through first mile, rolling hills from mile one to mile four, mostly flat last two miles.
Weather: Temperature around 50 F at the start. Cold in the morning but warmed up as the sun appeared on a clear day. Low humidity and no significant wind.

Texas Independence Day 5K Run

Place: 8th overall; no age groups; Texas hats to top 50 finishers

Course: Start at Congress Avenue Bridge with gradual uphill to State Capitol, circling State Capitol, and gradual downhill to start point at Congress Avenue bridge. From south end of Congress Avenue bridge, north on Congress Avenue to 11th Street, west on 11th to Lavaca Street, north on Lavaca to 15th Street, east on 15th to San Jacinto Blvd, south on San Jacinto 11th Street, west on 11th to Congress Avenue, south on Congress returning to Congress Avenue bridge.
Weather: Temperature in low 70s F, about 50% humidity, mostly overcast with occasional peek of sun, strong wind from the South.

5K For Clay

Course: The looped course starts and finishes at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. From the Recreation Center runners will run behind the center down the trail, past the Round Rock Skatepark to the AW Grimes Blvd bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on the trail in a loop and back to the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.
Weather: Mild temperature around 80 F. Slight humidity. Sunny and clear.

Bat Run 5K

Distance: 5 kilometers

Place: Somewhere in top 20; metals to top 20 finishers
Location: Austin, Texas
Start Time: 6:45 PM
Course: Start at Barton Springs Road between Congress Avenue and 1st Street, to 1st Street, to Riverside Drive, to Lee Barton Drive, to Barton Springs, to Riverside, (then 2nd loop) down Riverside to Lee Barton, to Barton Springs, and finish where started. Mostly flat course with no steep inclines.
Weather: High temperature for the day was 101 F. Temperature around start time was still in upper 90s. Sunny but some shade along course. Four available stops for water.
